Ric Ocasek, frontman of the influential new wave band The Cars, has died at the age of 75 according to multiple sources.
According to NBC4 New York, an emergency call was made by Ocasek's estranged wife Paulina Porizkova around 4pm on September 15 regarding an unresponsive man at a townhouse on East 19th Street in Manhattan, New York, Ocasek's residence. The man, identified as Ocasek, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police do not think there was any foul play involved in Ocasek's death and believe that he died of natural causes.
The Cars, which Ocasek founded in part in 1977, have sold over 23 million records worldwide behind hits like "Let the Good Times Roll," "Drive," "Magic" and "Just What I Needed." Ocasek was the primary songwriter for the band.
In 2018, The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Ocasek is survived by six sons.
